About Foers Engineering, the manufacturers

the Ibex Owners Club

The first Foers Ibex, Chassis No. 4F001, was conceived in 1988, by automotive engineer and off-road enthusiast, John Foers of Foers Engineering Ltd (originally based in Rotherham), who built the first vehicle using many of his own parts.

Recognising that conventional mainstream products were not ideally suited to the most extreme terrain found within the UK, Foers set about designing a high performing all wheel drive vehicle capable of specification in either 4x4 or 6x6 format, and available in a wide range of body and chassis configurations (240, 250, 280 and 360, SWB, MWB, soft top, hard top, pickup and special purpose vehicles).

Generally sold in kit form and fitted with donor parts from Land Rovers, the Ibex can also be purchased as a complete vehicle.

In 2004, Foers Engineering Ltd entered into a licensing agreement with Ricardo Vehicle Engineering. In practice this meant moving Ibex production, along with John and David Foers, from Foers Engineering to 'Ricardo Special Vehicle Operations' premises in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. A number of Ibex were built this way until 2006, when facilities returned to Foers Engineering Ltd in Hexham, Northumberland. An agreement is still in place, with Ricardo pursuing alternative markets and Foers Engineering manufacturing vehicles.

Maddison 4x4, an independent servicing and accessory company based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, will also assemble complete vehicles for customers who have purchased the Ibex in kit form.

See Ibex Register 4F001 for more details of this first, unique vehicle and subsequent models.
